Cottonwood (Special) -- Funeral services for Louis Tissaw, 94, Austrian-born Arizona pioneer who resided here for 75 years will be held in the Cottonwood Seventh Day Adventist Church at 2 p.m. tomorrow Mr. Tissaw, a rancher and bee keeper, who spoke seven languages, came to this area in 1882. He died Saturday in Arizona Pioneers' Home near Prescott where he had been a guest for the past five years. He has 104 descendants in addition to his seven sons and five daughters, and including 71 great grandchildren. A long-time widower, his sons and daughters who survive him are: Sons, Joe D. and Dan of Flagstaff; Paul and George of Williams; Victor of Fort Huachucha; Jim of Phoenix; and Andrew of Indio, Calif.; Daughters, Mrs. Rosie Huckaby, of Newman, Calif.; Mrs., Mary Campbell, of Chula Vista, Calif.; Mrs. Ruth Hancock, of Wickiup; and Mrs. Flora Hancock, of Williams.
Also: (Source unknown) Pioneer of Arizona Dies In Prescott Louis Tissaw, 94, Arizona pioneer, died at a Prescott hospital Saturday as the result of a ------ cold Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2: p.m. at Cottonwood Seventh Day Adventist Church, with his seven sons, Joe, Paul, Andrew, Dave, Vic, George and Jim as pallbearers. Other survivors are his four daughters, Mrs. Rose Huckaby, Newman, Calif.; Mrs. Mary Campbell, Chula Vista, Calif.; Mrs Flora Hancock, Topock, Calif. Mr. Tissaw was born in Germany and educated in Switzerland, becoming master of seven languages. He came to the United States as a young man and settled in Texas for a time where he married, then ---------- to Arizona settling on a ranch in Verde Valley, which he still owned at the time of his death. All but one of his children were born to the pioneer couple survive, a daughter, Lois, dying in 1941. Mrs. Tissaw died in 1944. In addition to his four daughters and seven sons, the pioneer is survived by 36 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. [Note: Though the obituaries do not state it, Louis died on Jan 19, 1957.] |
