John R. Burkett, 82, Services Held Thursday

John R. Burkett, long time O'Donnell resident passed away Tuesday, July 4, in the Medical Arts Hospital, Lamesa.  Services were held Thursday, July 6 in the O'Donnell Church of Christ at 3 p.m. with Bro. Jack Hackworth, Odessa, officiating.  Burial was in O'Donnell Cemetery under the direction of White Funeral Home

Burkett was born Dec. 6, 1885 and moved to the O'Donnell area in 1921 where he farmed east of that city until his retirement a few years ago.  He and Mrs. Burkett then moved into the city of O'Donnell.

Mrs. Burkett passed away in August 1966.

Survivors include three daughters; Mrs. Frank McHaney, Odessa, Mrs. C. L. Taylor, Baileyboro, Texas, Mrs. A. F. Allen, O'Donnell; five sons, J. Elmo Burkett, Portales, Jake L. Burkett, Maple, Joe W. Burkett, Angleton, Dale L. Burkett, Odessa, Jim M. Burkett, O'Donnell; twenty-nine grandchildren and thirty-four great grandchildren.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.
