Prominent Attorney Dies in San Antonio

Funeral services for Joseph Washington Burkett, 76, of San Antonio, father of Joe Burkett, Jr., of Kerrville, were held in San Antonio Monday at 10 a.m. at the Alamo Chapels with Rev. Harry Owens officiating.  Interment followed in North Mission Burial Park.

Mr. Burkett died Saturday in a San Antonio hospital.

He was born in Llano County on Oct. 12, 1885.  Mr. Burkett had been a resident of San Antonio for the past 37 years.

He was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge, Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 70, Texas Bar Association and San Antonio Bar Association.

Survivors in addition to Joe Burkett, Jr., are his widow, Mrs. Hester Burkett, two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Palmie, Austin, and Mrs. Gene Ellison, Abilene, another son, Omar Burkett, Cisco and five grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Pat Maloney, Frank Vaughan, James Barlow, H. L. Dillishaw, Allen Black and William Keith.  Honorary pallbearers were members of the San Antonio Bar Association.
