Funeral services for V. W. Heard, 71, retired Texas and Pacific Railroad engineer, are to be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the River Funeral Home chapel. Thomas E. Cudd, minister of the Church of Christ will officiate. Gravesite rites will also be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Baird City Cemetery. Baird was formerly the home of Mr. Heard. A resident of Big Spring since 1936, Mr. Heard died at 10:30 a.m. in a local hospital after an illness extending back to September, 1960. He had retired as a T&P employee in February, 1960 after having worked for the line since 1913. He was born on Oct. 30, 1889 in Howth, Texas. He was married on Jan. 20, 1914, to Miss Archie Burkett in Baird. They continued to live there until 1933 when they moved to Sweetwater. Three years later they came to Big Spring. They made their home here at 1900 Main. Mr. Heard was a member of the Church of Christ and of the Brotherhood of Firemen & Enginermen. Survivors include his wife, one son, Vernon Heard of Big Spring and two grandchildren. |
