Joseph Tissaw Jr., 47, Dies Friday, Funeral Rites Monday

   Funeral services will be  held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Federated Community Church for Joseph Daniel Tissaw Jr., 47, native of Flagstaff, who died suddenly of a heart attack at the junior high school lounge Friday evening about 4 o'clock.  At the time of his death he was serving as boys counselor of Flagstaff Junior High School.  He had previously suffered a heart attack a year ago last August.

    The Rev. George Wright, pastor of the church, will officiate and burial will follow in the Gregg family plot in the Masonic Cemetery.   The Flagstaff Masonic Lodge will conduct graveside services.  Masons will gather at the temple at 9:15 to prepare for the services.

    Member of a widely known pioneer Northern Arizona family,  he was born in Flagstaff, Sept. 5, 1915.  He was the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe D. Tissaw Sr.  His father is on the Coconino County Board of Supervisors.

    Mr. Tissaw received all of his education in the Flagstaff schools and was a graduate of Arizona State College where he received his Masters degree in education.  He was an outstanding backfield man on the Lumberjack College Varsity football team during his college career, and was a member of Kappa Delta Pi National Education fraternity.  He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and Elks Lodge No. 490.    

    At the time of his death he was a captain in the Air Force Reserve and served four years with the Air Force during World War II.

    For the past several years he has been on the staff of the junior high school, but was formerly a partner in the Tissaw Electric Co.  Very active in Little League baseball circles, he served as president of of the Flagstaff organization at one time. 

    In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Ruth, a daughter Deanna, 17, and a son, Joseph D. III, 14; his sister, Mrs. June Tissaw Dwyer, and two brothers, Thomas H. of Flagstaff, and William, a teacher in Camp Verde shools.

    Friends may call at the Flagstaff Mortuary from 1 p.m to 8 p.m. Sunday.

    Pallbearers will be Don Clark, Mayor Rollin W. Wheeler, Shelton G. Dowell, William Hensley, Neil V. Christensen and Walter Runke Jr.

    Honorary pallbearers will include Sturgeon Cromer, W. F. Killip, Clarence Butler, Phillip Nackard, Charles Langley, Walter Nackard, Dr. John F. Currin, Fred Anderson, Gil Corona, John Ply, Robert Fronske, Dr. M. G. Fronske, E. H. (Bud) McNamera, Walter Hodges, Dr. John Pederson, Bill Williams, Gov. Akers of Phoenix, Bob Lockell, Johnny Thomas, Harry W. Miller, Aaron M. McCreary, Lamar Haines, Jack Vercamp of Grand Canyon, Eric Curtis, Don Wauland, Fred Stockhaus, Dr. J.W. Stilley, Dick Kuhn, Michael Flournoy, Stan Townsend, Howard Weidner and John Britt.
