Mr. James E. Box of 309 N. Boundary St. in Burnet, passed away December 10, 1971, in a Burnet hospital.

He was a member of the Burnet Methodist Church and Mt. Horeb Lodge #137, A.F.&A.M.  Mr. Box had served as a school superintendent for some 40 years with positions in San Saba, Burnet, Williamson, and Goliad Counties.  At the time of his retirement, he was superintendent of schools in Nixon, Texas.  On September 18, 1927, he was married to the former Miss Lou Helen McFarland who survives him.  Surviving him other than his wife are: one daughter, Mrs. Jayme Lou Boriack of Corpus Christi; two sons, Dr. James E. Box, Jr. of Athens, Ga. and Dr. Richard A. Box of Austin; four sisters, Mrs. Frankie Boyd of San Antonio, Mrs. Allie Porter of San Marcos, Mrs. Willie Mae Wood of Kingsland and Mrs. Lora Schuessler of Kingsland; two brothers, Roland Box of Luling and Alfred Box of Kerrvillle; six grandsons, one granddaughter, other close relatives and friends. 

Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 13, 1971, at the Burnet Methodist Church with the Rev. A. S. Neely, Pastor, officiating.  Pallbearers were Tom Henry, B. Pogue, Raymond Kuykendall, Lawson Gibbs, Joe Hammond, D. W. Box, Alton Box, and Melvin Kincheloe.

Interment was in the Post Mountain Cemetery with the Edgar Funeral Directors in charge. 

Masonic graveside rite were in charge of Valley Lodge # 175, A.F. & A.M. of Burnet.
