Calvin M. Thrash

Funeral services will be held Saturday for Calvin Miller Thrash, who died in Eureka, April 10, 1985, at age 62.  He was a resident of Eureka.

Mr. Thrash died as the result of injuries from an industrial accident in 1982, which had left him in a coma since that date.

He was born January 14, 1923, in Olustee, Oklahoma.  Mr. Thrash was raised on a farm in Oklahoma, and gained his love for horses and cattle during that time.  He was interested in raising Quarter horses and enjoyed the rodeo, both in and out of California.

An avid golfer, he played in tournaments in Northern California for several years prior to his accident.

Mr. Thrash was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He worked at several local mills and had been employed with Louisiana Pacific at the Samoa pulp mill since 1965.

Mr. Thrash was a member of the Church of Christ for over 40 years, and had served the church as a deacon, an elder, and a song leader for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Thrash; his mother, Dolly Thrash Williamson; his sons and his daughters-in-law, Tim Thrash of Livermore, Michael Thrash of Eureka, Stan and Debbie Thrash of Eureka, and Randy and Balenda Thrash of Eureka; his daughters and his son-in-law, Donna and Gary Scriven of Redding and Calva Allen of Eureka; his grandchildren and their spouses, Kent and Connie Allen, Shannon Allen, Sheri Scriven, Kari and Ronald Geiger, Cathren and Kevin Eades, and Marie Scriven, all of Eureka, Tony Thrash of Eureka, Todd, Robert and Tracy Thrash of Arcata, and Tyler, Trevor and Melody Thrash of Eureka; his great-grandchildren, Calvin John "CJ" Dalton and Steffaine Allen; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Mr. Thrash was preceded in death by his father, Marvin A. Thrash, in 1958.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services at the Eureka Church of Christ, 1610 I Street, Eureka, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13.  Bill Lawrence and Lyle Bonner of the Eureka Church of Christ will officiate.

Interment will be held at Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka.

Casketbearers will be Mr. Thrash's sons, grandsons and sons-in-law.  Honorary bearers include Joe Ballew, Eddie Carroll, Otto Watts, Fred Phebus, Elmo Cooper, and Martin Bauman.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Mortuary Chapels/Pierce Chapel, Eureka, where friends may call for visitation from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
