LA RUSSELL, Mo. -- Fred L.. Whitehead, 71, La Russell, route 1, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield after a long illness. Mr. Whitehead was born Dec. 5, 1917 in Sarcoxie, and was a lifelong Sarcoxie-La Russell area resident. He was a farmer and owner of the Whitehead Farm Supply, which he founded in 1960. He retired in 1964. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, a member of the board of directors of Sarcoxie Rural Protection Association and a trustee of Harvey Cemetery. He married Erma Burkett on Dec. 24, 1939, in Sarcoxie. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Fred Whitehead Jr., Carthage, and Larry Whitehead, Winchester, Ky.; two daughters, Patricia Guinn and Linda Taylor, both of La Russell; a brother, Loy Whitehead, Arcadia; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will b a 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Dayringer officiating. Burial will be in the Harvey Cemetery, west of La Russell, under the direction of Housch Funeral Home, Sarcoxie. Pallbearers will be Mark Guinn, Kevin Guinn, A.E. Graff, Richard Chrisman, Bob Craig and Steve Henderson. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Hammond Heart Institute in care of the funeral home. |
