MEHEULA George P. Meheula passed away at his residence in Sparks, Nev. on August 19, 1997. He is survived by his wife and 10 children, two brothers and a sister. George Meheula had a distinguished career in the martial arts spanning almost fifty years. For well over twenty five years, Master Meheula was affiliated with the late Si Jo John K. Wong of Fairland, California. Before his death in 1994, Si Jo Wong, founder of the Wu Shmg Tai Chi for Health System, ranked George Meheula a 6th degree black belt. Throughout his years in the Arts, Master Meheula trained with such notable figures as his mentar Si Jo Wong, world famous Prof. Wally Jay, the legendary Emperados of Hawaii, Calvin Shin, Tony Ramos and Henry ifonderen. As a competitor, Master Meheula won many tournaments, including Black Belt Forms in the 1978 prestigious Long Beach, CA Tournament. Over the years of operating and becoming disillusioned with the commercial aspects of the Martial Arts world, Master Meheula spent the last years of his life with a few trusted associates, teaching a handful of students in a close family type setting. Master Meheula founded the C.O.A.M.A.H., (Coalition of Oriental and American Martial Arts of Hawaii) System of Self Defense. Master Meheula painstakingly perfected and cataloged his own system which would have earned him a professorship in the Martial Arts Community. Unique features of his system included lessons on verbally disarming an opponent, Hawaiian language and culture, as well as music, cooking and philosophy. Master Meheula was know throughout Hawaii. California and Nevada as being one of a truly rare breed, a true Martial Artist. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 25 at 1 p.m., Ross. Burke, and Knobel Mortuary in Sparks, Nevada. |
