John "Andy" Tissaw
OBIT: JOHN ANDREW TISSAW John "Andy" Tissaw of Verde Valley died April 25, 1997. He was 96 years old. He was born May 11, 1900 near Clarkdale. In 1903, the family moved to their homestead at the end of Tissaw Road. As a young man Andy worked for UVX in the Power House. When it closed in 1937 he moved to Miami, Arizona, and then to Superior where he continued to work for the Copper Companies. When World War II began, he moved to Williams and worked for the Navajo Ordinance Depot at Belmont. After the war was over he continued to work for the government, first for the forest service and then for the park service at Grand Canyon National Park. He retired from the Park Service in December of 1965. He then came back to the Verde Valley where he lived until his death. Andy was proceeded in death by his wife, Nina Conder Tissaw; their oldest daughter, Bebe ( Betty Bell ); six brothers, Joe, Paul, Dave, Vic, George and Jim; and five sisters, Rosy, Mary, LuLu, Ruth and Flora. He is survived by his ( grand) daughter, Lynn Rhodes of Cornville; two sons, John of Tucson and Ted of Las Vagas; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sally and Cleo and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held May 1 at 11 a.m. at the Cottonwood Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cottonwood. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to the S.D.A.
