Marcus Nils Mauritz TEXAS SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 75,
January 25, 1999 1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 75 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Marcus Nils Mauritz 1-6 WHEREAS, The passing of Marcus Nils "Pat" Mauritz on 1-7 August 1, 1998, at the age of 61, brought a great loss to the 1-8 family and friends of this beloved gentleman; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Born in Victoria on October 30, 1936, Mr. Mauritz 1-10 was one of the first members of Boy Scout Troop 135 in Ganado in 1-11 1948; he graduated from Ganado High School and, in 1959, earned a 1-12 bachelor of science degree from Texas A&M University, where he was 1-13 active in Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity; and 1-14 WHEREAS, He served his country with distinction as a member 1-15 of the United States Army and attained the rank of captain; 1-16 following his military service, he began a career as an independent 1-17 cattleman; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Mauritz was a devoted family man who enjoyed 1-19 a happy and rewarding relationship with his wife of 37 years, 1-20 Mitzi McClung Mauritz; they were married on April 29, 1961, in 1-21 Houston, and their union was blessed with three children; and 1-22 WHEREAS, A dedicated community leader, Mr. Mauritz served 1-23 for many years as the Victoria County Republican Party chairman, 1-24 and he maintained an active interest in contributing to the 2-1 quality of life in the Ganado area; he was a long-standing member 2-2 of Saint James Lutheran Church and supported scouting and funding 2-3 for scholarships for Ganado-area youth; his ongoing support was 2-4 exemplified by his funding of a College of Agriculture endowed 2-5 scholarship and a permanently endowed 12th Man Scholarship to 2-6 Texas A&M University; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Mr. Mauritz received a number of honors and 2-8 accolades for his charitable efforts; his tributes include a 1994 2-9 Texas A&M University Outstanding Alumnus designation from the 2-10 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and receipt of the 2-11 Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Recognition Award 2-12 and the Texas Rice Industry Outstanding Service Award from the 2-13 Texas Rice Improvement Association; and 2-14 WHEREAS, He was also named a recipient of a special 2-15 recognition award for service "Above and Beyond" by the College of 2-16 Agriculture Development Council of Texas A&M University, and he won 2-17 an Outstanding Service Award for representing the NASULGC Council 2-18 for Agricultural Research, Extension and Teaching; in addition, he 2-19 was selected for the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellowship 2-20 Award; and 2-21 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know 2-22 Marcus Nils "Pat" Mauritz will long miss his presence, but 2-23 his generous spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of 2-24 the many individuals whose lives he touched; now, therefore, 2-25 be it 2-26 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-1 76th Legislature, honor the memory of Marcus Nils "Pat" Mauritz 3-2 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: his 3-3 wife, Mitzi Mauritz; his son and daughter, Nils Patrick Mauritz 3-4 and Madelyn M. Mauritz; his mother, Helen Mauritz; his sister 3-5 and brother-in-law, Cookie and Mark Streng; his brother and 3-6 sister-in-law, D.
