BARBARA ANNE FILLEMAN PURSER

Barbara Anne Filleman Purser, 68, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, in San Angelo.  Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel.  Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father Charles Greenwell officiating.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be John Carrigan, Ed Bendinelli, Bradley Kitten, William E. Taylor, Arthur Hobbs and Gerald K. Toole.  An angel was born March 5, 1931, in San Angelo.  She graduated from San Angelo High School in 1948.  Her yearbook picture smiles outward alongside a lengthy list of involvements and achievements, including the student elected campus co- ed.  She also delivered kicks for the Standard-Times where her mother worked for 34 years.  Barbara went on to fulfill her dreams of helping others as a dedicated teacher and for many of her students, a second mother.  Her love and encouragement landed hundreds of girls with jobs that have brought them success that will last a lifetime.  She loved teaching and once served as president of Region XV of the Teachers Association.  After teaching, her second passion was golfing.  An avid golfer, she had held every position possible in the Riverside Ladies Golf Association.  Barbara never tired of doing for others.  A few hours prior to her passing, Barbara was making sure a basket of treats would be sent to the nurses who helped her in the hospital.  If a therapist mentioned someone in their family was having a birthday, Barbara saw to it that a card was sent.  The family would like to express its appreciation to all the nurses and the rehab staff at Shannon Hospital who fought so courageously to save her live.  They suggest that donations be made to the Meals for the Elderly and Hospice of San Angelo and the Regional Cancer Center.  Barbara spent her 68 years loving God and each and every one of his people.  She is a catalyst of happiness and responsible for smiles as numerous as the stars.  Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Bill J. Purser; her son, Donald G. Purser and wife, Connie, of Houston; her brother, Charles S. Filleman and wife, Julie, of Houston; two grandchildren, Dawn and Toby Purser of Houston; two nieces, Joy and Jodie Filleman of Austin; and two nephews, Kent and Mark Filleman.
