Velna Louis Wells

OVERBROOK -- Velna Louise Wells, 75, longtime Overbrook area resident, died Monday, March 22, 1999, at a Topeka hospital.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 26, 1999 at the Covenant Church in Scranton.

She was born February 5, 1924, at Bushong, to James William and Mary Julia (Cole) Wymore.  She attended Pleasant Valley Rural School and was graduated from Osage City High School in 1941.  She married John "Jack" Edwin Wells on November 27, 1945 at Osage City.  He survives of the home.

She was a member of Fidelity Chapter #38, Order of the Eastern Star of Carbondale, and of the Good Sams Camping Club.  She and her husband helped organize a 4-H Club southwest of Overbrook where she served as leader for five years.

She was employed  by Stauffer Publications for 15 years and later for 18 years as a supervisor in the Sales and Excise Tax Division of the State of Kansas.

Survivors include two sons, Robert E. Wells, Burlingame, and Richard D. Wells, Overbrook; a sister, Genevieve Neilson, San Dimas, Calif.; three brothers, James J. Wymore, Glendale, Calif., Delmer J. Wymore and Donald D. Wymore, both of Osage City; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Burial will follow the services and will be at Burlingame Cemetery.  She will lie in state from 3-8 p.m., Thursday at Greenwood-Robert-Heise Funeral Home in Overbrook, where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thurday.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Osage Fire District #4, Emergency Medical Services and may be sent in care of the funeral home,
