Jimmy Ray Yarborough

Find A Grave Memorial

Jimmy Ray Yarborough

Jimmy Ray Yarborough, 55, passed away on November 30, 1999, in Alturas, Calif.  He was born in Tionesta, Calif. on September 2, 1944, to Mitch and Esther Yarborough.

Jimmy graduated from Modoc High School in 1961.  He had a love for the forest and worked in that field for several years after high school.

From 1968-1970, Jimmy served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.  After leaving the service, he moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he met and married Betsy Beaver.  They had two children, David and Kathy.

Jimmy returned to Modoc County where he resumed working in the forest and for Bagwell Construction.  He also worked for Modoc Medical Center as a maintenance engineer.  He was extremely dedicated and well-liked by his fellow workers.

Jimmy was an avid sports/outdoors man.  He was a huge fan of the San Francisco 49'ers and cherished the great out doors.  Hunting, fishing, water skiing, and black powder rendezvouses were a huge part of his life.  Devil's Garden was as familiar to him as his own back yard.  Jimmy had a unique sense of direction and could find his way without the aid of a compass or landmark of the many flats, valleys and plateaus found on the Garden.

Jimmy was a wonderful, loving friend.  He was generous to a fault.  Jimmy will be cherished and remembered as someone whom you could always county on.  His friendship and love was unconditional.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his brother Donny, and his parents Esther and Mitch.

He is survived by his children David, 28 and Kathy, 23, both of Pueblo, Colo.; his brother Kenny Yarborough and his nephew Jeremy Yarborough, both of Alturas; his niece Kelly, who lives in Reno, Nev. and his adopted family, Helen, Ken, Loni, Ted and Emily, and many friends in Modoc County.

Jimmy's zest for life and spirit of adventure will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

"His compassion and willingness to help in any situation made him a very special person who will remain in our hearts forever," offer family members and friends.

Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 4 at Kerr Mortuary Chapel in Alturas at 1 p.m. Pastor Rod Bodmer officiated.

Memorial contributions in Jimmy's name may be made to any charity of the donor's choice.
