Ira J. Young, 76, died Monday, March 20, 2000 in Amarillo.

Mr. Young was born in Hollis, OK.

He and Louise Gillenwater were married in 1942 in Wheeler.

He moved to Amarillo in 1988 from Gould, OK.  He was the vice president of Lubbock-Amarillo Armored Car Service.  He retired in 1973.  He worked as a volunteer for the Texas Department of Human Services where he received a plaque for 100 hours of volunteer service.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ira Wayne Young, in 1990.

Survivors are his wife of the home, three daughters, Daphne Fox and Beverly Daniels both of Amarillo and "Kitten" Kplara of Lubbock; one son, Melvin Glen Young of Amarillo; two sisters, Leona Parker of Selma, CA and Zennia Gaines of Pampa; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
