Charles "Chuck" LaBarr Amarillo Daily News, March 12, 2001
PAMPA - Charles "Chuck" LaBarr, 81, died Saturday, March 10, 2001. Funeral services for Ivan Klarberg of McMinnville will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors. The Rev. Jim Peterson will officiate. Viewing will run noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in the chapel. Interment is planned at Evergreen Memorial Park in McMinnville. Mr. Klarberg died at home on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006. He was 87. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Colonial Chapel at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors with the Rev. Jacob Clemmens, rector of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum with full military honors by Altus Air Force Base of Altus, Okla. Masonic graveside rites will be by Pampa Masonic Lodge No. 966 AF&AM. Mr. LaBarr was born Feb. 2, 1921, at Peoria, Ill., and graduated from Manuel High School in January 1939, at Peoria. He entered the Army in 1939 and later enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He served in the Pacific and Japan during World War II and served in the Korean War, retiring as lieutenant colonel in the Air Force. He attended Officers Candidate School and then was assigned to Air Research and Development at Command, Baltimore. He retired Jan. 30, 1960, as Director of Procurement at Holloman Air Force Base at Alamogordo, N.M. He then entered the Civil Service with the Department of Defense, where he held various positions in Procurement and Contracting, retiring in Dec. 1977. He married Faye Grisham on Dec. 14, 1974, at Los Angeles. He worked for the aerospace industry in Santa Monica, Calif., for five years, retiring in Feb. 1985. He moved to Pampa in 1988. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Pampa Masonic Lodge No. 966 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Consistory at El Paso, Khiva Shrine Temple at Amarillo, past president of Pampa Shrine Club and a member of Pampa Chapter No. 65 Order of Eastern Star. He became a member of Rotary International in the late 1970s and was past president of Westchester Rotary Club at Los Angeles. He was past president of Pampa Rotary Club and served as Rotary District 5730 Governor from 1994 until 1995. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and a major benefactor. He was a Methodist. Survivors include his wife; a son, Edward Grisham of Houston; a brother, Robert LaBarr of Peoria; and two granddaughters. The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, 800 N. Sumner, Pampa, TX 79065; Rotary Foundation, Rotary International, One Rotary Center, Evansville, IL 60201-3698; or Pampa Shrine Children's Travel Fund, P.O. Box 1205, Pampa, TX 79066.
