Raymond A. McGallion Beaumont Enterprise, The, November 21, 2003
Raymond "Stud" McGallion, age 76, passed away Tuesday night, November 18, 2003 at his home in Silsbee, Texas. He was born March 9, 1927 and raised in Silsbee by his parents, Maggie and Lum McGallion. He was one of four children. He was preceded in death by both parents, one sister, Helen Gore and his only brother, Dalton McGallion. He leaves behind his dear sister, Hazel Lack and husband, J.F. Lack of Port Neches, Texas and his brother-in-law, Bill McCool and his wife Kay of Sulphur Springs, Texas. After graduating high school, he attended Tyler Junior College where he played football for coach Floyd Wagstaff. It was here that he met his wife, Rose McCool McGallion and married on August 20, 1949. She was his absolute pride and joy up until the day she passed away in 1993. Upon leaving Tyler Junior College he then played football at North Texas State College in Denton. This is where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and his Master's degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. This is also where his first son, Deryl Ray, was born. He then started his coaching career in Greenville, Texas where he coached one year before coming back to coach in Silsbee. He and Rose then had three more children, Bobby, Craig and Amy. His career in Silsbee as a football coach, head football coach, and athletic director lasted thirty-nine years before he retired. After retirement his life was full of hunting, fishing and watching his grandchildren participate in sporting activities. His seven grandchildren were a very big part of his life and he was very proud of each and every one of them. They are Heath and Holley McGallion of Beaumont, Texas; Ryan McGallion of College Station; Shane, Kyle, Lance and Lacey McGallion all of Silsbee. He also leaves behind his children, Deryl Ray McGallion and his wife Cheryl of Sour Lake, Texas; Bobby McGallion and his wife Regina, Craig McGallion and his wife Gayle and his daughter Amy McGallion, all of Silsbee. He was not only their father, but he was their mentor and friend. He was always there with a helping hand and a listening ear whenever they needed him. They will miss him dearly. Along with his sister, brother-in-law, children and grandchildren he leaves behind many nieces and nephews and a vast number of friends. He will be missed by all, but definitely remembered. Funeral services will be Friday, November 21, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Silsbee with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Farmer Funeral home from 5 to 7:30 p.m on Thursday. Reverend Ken Calhoun, Doctor Scott Moody and Charlie Woodard will be officiating the service.
