OWEN CHARLES DAVIS

   Services for Owen Charles Davis, 81, of Gainesville, are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Mark Loewen, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville.

   Mr. Davis died March 30, 2004, at St. Paul's University Hospital in Dallas.

   Owen Charles Davis was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Chillicothe, the seventh son of Warren and Della Davis.  He graduated from Chillicothe High School and played on the Chillicothe Eagles football team.  He attended Tulane University and the University of Texas until 1943, when he and his twin brother, Allen, joined the Navy.  He served aboard the USS Enterprise in the Pacific Theater.

   He graduated from the University of Texas in 1949, with a degree in business administration, and married Mary Margaret Smalley of Vernon in 1951.  He moved to Gainesville, where he opened Owen Davis Insurance Agency.  Owen received many professional honors and was an active member in both professional and service organizations.  Among these were Rotary Club, Optimists and the Jaycees.  He was a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table, and was honored by Southwestern Life Insurance, Texas Life and AFLAC for his long successful career.  He was a member of the First Christian Church of Gainesville, and served for many years as deacon and then Elder.

   Owen was a long-time supporter of the Gainesville Leopards, had served as a member of the Board of Adjustment for Cooke County Tax Appraisal District and loved painting and caring for trees, lawns and flowers.  He followed oil and gas development in the area, and was fascinated by the weather.

   He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Charles Chandler Davis of Argyle and Scott Anthony Davis of Austin; and four grandchildren, Blakely, Chandler, Piper and Erika Davis.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 pm. today.
