John Wesley Emfinger Springfield News-Leader, July 8, 2004
John Wesley Emfinger Sr., age 61, passed away June 26, 2004, in St. Paul Hospital, Dallas, Texas. He was born September, 7, 1942, in Ft. Worth, Texas, the son of Norman and Ruby Green Emfinger. Mr. Emfinger lived most of his life in Dallas, Texas. He married JoAnn McGowan and they had three children. Mr. Emfinger worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Nixa Christian Church. In 1983, he married Nellie M. Buchanan. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Emfinger, Paris, Texas; his son, John Wesley Emfinger Jr. and wife, Deloris, Nixa; a daughter, Gretchen Gardner and husband, Mark, Kimberling City; three grand-children, Justin Emfinger and Elizabeth and Joshua Gardner; his father, Norman Emfinger and wife, Evelyn, Littlefield, Texas; and a sister, Linda Goen, Littlefield, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Emfinger; a daughter, Rachael Emfinger; and his first wife, JoAnn McGowan. Mr. Emfinger was a true people person. Everyone who met him loved him for his uplifting spirit. He loved music, singing and worshiping. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2004, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Dr. Rod Cannedy officiating. Private burial will be in Glenn Cemetery, Nixa.
