Valton E. Smith, 82, of
Modesto died Monday at his home.
Mr. Smith was a native
of Hollis, Okla., and lived in Modesto 52 years. He worked as a tax
accountant for nearly 50 years. He was a member of Davis Park Church of
Christ. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his
wife, Gertrue Smith of Modesto; children, Valton Smith Jr. and Gilbert
Smith, both of Kodiak, Alaska, Wayne Smith of Modesto and Malcolm Smith of
Aberdeen, Wash.; brothers, U.L. Smith of Dill City, Okla., Herbert Smith
of San Antonio and Everett Smith of Houston; sisters, Lois Linn of Dill
City, Okla., Frances f of Dumas, Texas, and Cleta Haney of Chickasha,
Okla.; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A service will be at 10
a.m. Saturday at Davis Park Church of Christ. Burial to follow at
Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at
Lakewood Funeral Home.
