George Edward Stone Jr.

    George Edward Stone Jr, 82 was born in Camden, Tenn. on Nov. 11, 1922.  He graduated from Isaac Litton High School ins 1941.  When the United States entered World War II that year, he joined the Army Air Corps and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.  After his service in WWII, he entered Vanderbilt University, earning a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1948.

    He was employed at Genesco by Maxey Jarman to be a pattern designer for the original General Shoe Company.  As an Air Force reservist, Mr. Stone was sent to Japan from 1951-1953 where he flew as a navigator in missions over Korea during the Korean Conflict.

    His life long love of flying led him to leadership in the Air Shows sponsored by the Rotary Club in the Donelson/Rutherford County area that provided entertainment and education to the public as well as fundraising for several charities in the mid state area.

    Mr. Stone was a lifelong Boy Scout.  As a young man he was a Scout who earned the Eagle Scout honor.  He was Scout Master to troops at Inglewood Baptist Church and Lincoya Hills Baptist Church.  Mr. Stone was honored with the Silver Beaver Award for his service to the Boy Scouts of America for his dedication and service to scouting and the principles it represents.

    Mr. Stone will be sadly missed by Eleanor, his loving wife of 60 years.  Also sadly mourning the loss of a very dear father are his three daughters, Jane Brissie, Carol Russell and Judy Stone, and their spouses, George Brissie and Clifford Russell.  Mr. Stone was very proud of his grandchildren, Peter Brissie, Mark Brissie, Alyson Erwin, Casey Endicott, and Chesney Russell; and great grandchild, Macy Endicott.  Other close, caring, supportive family members in the Middle Tennessee area include sisters, Sarah Jenkins, Mary (Robert) DePriest, Jean Yount and their families.

The family wishes to thank Odyssey and the Tennessee Veterans Home for their loving care of George Stone and his family.

    Services were 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004 at Spring Hill Funeral Home.  Interment is in Hermitage Memorial Gardens.

    Arrangements were made by Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery.
