Richard A. Rich Wilson, 60, of Vallejo passed away suddenly Sunday while visiting family in Shingle Springs, Calif. A native of Vacaville, Rich had lived in Vallejo all his life. He was a shipfitter on Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 30 years and worked at St. Vincents Catholic Church and Elementary School the past 8 years. He served in the U.S. Army, was a member of B.P.O.E. #559 and an active member of St. Vincents Catholic Church. Rich was a vital part of the Vallejo Police Activities Softball program. For nearly a decade he has sat on the Board of Directors for the Home League Softball program as their equipment manager and devoted many hours volunteering his time to improve the soft-ball fields. He managed a team every season the past 10 years, touching the lives of many players. Because of his devotion to the program he was awarded Volunteer of the Year at the 2004 opening ceremonies. Rich has sat on the Board of Directors for the Vallejo PAL Hurricanes softball program since 1999. He started a team of 10 and under girls that over the past 5 years has turned into his extended family. His knowledge of the game and devotion to the girls has led to a 154 win and 69 loss overall record. His girls have placed as high as second nationally in the National Softball Association and in 2003 won the State Championship in the 14U NSA B Division. That same year, the NSA named him Manager of the Year. He certainly placed Vallejo and the Hurricanes on the softball map in our country. He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey M. Wilson. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Monica; his daughters, Christa (Jim) Nestman, Amie Wilson and Mallorie Wilson; his sons, Jason (Nina) Wilson and Brant Wilson; his mother, Georganna Wilson; his brothers, Eldon (Jane) Wilson, Kenneth (Stella) Wilson and Tom Wilson; and his grandchildren, Ashley, Anthony, Peaches, Jessica, Lacey, Adam, Taylor and Ethan; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. today with a vigil service 7 p.m. today at Twin Chapels Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Vincents Catholic Church. Inurnment will be private.
