Mary Brown

Madras resident Mary E. Brown died Feb. 21, 2005, at Mountain View Hospital in Madras at the age of 89.

Mrs. Brown was born July 13, 1915, in Big Bend, Calif., to parents George and Nettie (Brown) Moak.  She married Ennis Brown in 1934.  He passed away in 1971.  She then married Earnest "Bub" Brown in 1973.  He passed away in 1993.

While living in Yankee Hill, Calif., she was a member of the Yankee Hill Ladies Club as well as the Concow Grange.  She was known as a "Yankee Hill" historian.

Her special interests included cooking, gardening, and she was an avid reader.  She moved to Madras in 1998 to be closer to her children.

Survivors include her children, E.R. "Bob" Brown and John Brown, both of Madras, Joan French of Prineville, and Judy Graham of Anchorage, Alaska; brother, James A. "Tobe" Moak of Chico, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by three brothers, and one sister.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 12, at the Moak Family Cemetery in Big Bend, Calif.  Memorial donations have been suggested to Mountain View Hospice in care of Mountain View Hospital, or the golden Feather Fire Department in Yankee Hill, Calif.  Arrangements are under the direction of Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home of Madras.
