David Michael Hammond North Little Rock Funeral Home
David Michael Hammond of Little Rock, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, died on September 3, 2005 at home with his wife Jackie Carson Hammond and daughter and son-in-law Ellen Hammond Hagood and Douglas Hagood, after succumbing to a months-long battle against lung cancer. He was 58. Mike Hammond was born in Clarksville, Arkansas on January 20, 1947, the son of James A. Hammond and Margaret Evelyn Barger Berner. A long time resident of Little Rock, he is survived by his wife and daughter, his grandchildren, Darcy Rose and Jackson, a sister-in-law and her husband, Linda and Tommy Emory, and nephew Jason Baxter, and his three siblings, Judith Purdy and Jim and Steve Hammond. After retiring from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department in 1999, Mike maintained his passion for surveying by resuming work with Mike and Pat Mehaffy of Thomco. His love of the Buffalo River, where he and his family frequently canoed from near its headwaters to its mouth, and his deep compassion for his friends and family, will long be remembered. Mike and his family express their deep gratitude to the nurses and doctors of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in whose care he found great comfort during his last months. His family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to The Ozark Society (for protection of the Buffalo River), P.O. Box 2914, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72203, or The Arkansas Cancer Research Center, 4301 W. Markham St., #623, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72205. Arrangements by Cremation Association of Arkansas, (501) 753-3200.
