Commodore Johnny 'C.J.' Mechaw Jr. Funeral services for Commodore Johnny "C.J." Mechaw Jr., of Cullman, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Tony Kimbril officiating, with burial in Bell Springs Cemetery. Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Mechaw passed away on July 18, 2005, at age 78. C.J. was born in Morgan County on June 24, 1927, to Commodore J. Mechaw Sr. and Myrtice Hart Mechaw Parker. He served in occupied Japan after World War II. He was a grocery store owner, auto mechanic, chicken farmer and forest ranger before becoming disabled. He was married for 47 years to Louise Burden Mechaw and they raised five children. He was preceded in death by his parents Commodore J. Mechaw Sr. and Myrtice Hart Mechaw Parker, step-father, Bascom Parker; wife, Louise Burden Mechaw; three brothers, Pete, Billy and Frankie Mechaw; sister-in-law, Irene Mechaw; sister, Ruby Harris; brothers-in-law, Roland Harris, Aldon "Shorty" Burden; mother and father-in-law, Gurley and Annie Mae Burden; and one grandson, Brandon Chavis. Survivors include two sons, Michael Johnny Mechaw and Mitchell Kevin (Donna) Mechaw, both of Cullman; three daughters, Marti Ann (Larry) Smith, Marsha Gail (Jimmy) Norris, Monica Gay (Steve) McCravy, all of Cullman; three brothers, Herman (Pat) Mechaw, James (Mary) Mechaw and Guy Mechaw; two brothers-in-law, Carlton (Betty) Burden and Dean Burden; sister-in-law, Nina (Ron) Justice; eight grandchildren, Tony (Allyson) Kimbril, Alana (Tim) Sartin, Jessie Zucnick, Amber (Henry) Aquite, Justin Patterson, Shawn Mechaw, Blake Mechaw and Adrienne Mechaw; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Kimbril, Corrie Kimbril, Caleb Kimbril, Gabriella Aquite, Johnny Aquite and Alexis Sartin; special friend Georgia Brown; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today. |
