Ruth C. Tissaw

Ruth C. Tissaw, of Flagstaff, died April 19, 2005.  She was 88.

She was born Sept. 1, 1916, in Tempe, to Christian and Christina Christensen.  She attended Gilbert Elementary School, graduated from Mesa High School in 1935, and attended Phoenix Junior College.  She moved to Flagstaff in 1937 and was employed by Longley's Beauty Shop.  In 1939, she was married to Joe D. Tissaw, Jr.

Mrs. Tissaw worked several years at NAU as a sorority dorm mother.  Later she was employed by Flagstaff Unified school District as library assistant until her retirement in 1982.  She enjoyed being a member of Flagstaff Hospital Women's Auxiliary.  She was a devoted member of the Church of the Epiphany and served as a member of the Alter Guild for many years.

She is survived by her daughter Deanna (Bill) Garbarino; son Joe (Julie) Tissaw; six grandsons; two great-grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe D. Tissaw, Jr.

She will be missed by many and remembered by all as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany 423 North Beaver.  A light luncheon reception will be held immediately after the service in the church activity hall.  A private interment will be at Citizens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Church of the Epiphany Alter Guild.

Arrangements are under the direction of Norvel Owens Mortuary.
