Marie Woods

Marie Woods, 90, of Arkansas City, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2005, at the Hawks Funeral Home.  Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Friday and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.  Born Jan. 2, 1915, in the Greenwood Township near Wellington, she was the daughter of Charles and Maggie (Harris) Underwood.  She lived for several years in the Wellington area where she married Earl Mitchell Bruce.  She later married Alvin L. Woods on March 24, 1958, in Miami, Okla.  The couple lived in Arkansas City several years before moving to Davis, Okla., where they lived for five years until he died in June 1985.  She returned to Arkansas City shortly after his death.  Marie worked at the Whacker Discount Store in Davis.  She worked at the Arkansas City Memorial Hospital, T.G.&Y. and later at the Arkansas City Wal-Mart until her retirement.  Survivors include her children Bob Bruce, and his wife, Paula, of Davis, Okla., Mervin Bruce, and his wife, Verna, of Arkansas City, Janice Sparks, of Oklahoma City, Donald Bruce, and his wife, Aleta, of Arkansas City, Cheryl Baughman, and her husband, Bill, of Arkansas City, Gary Bruce, and his wife, Caroline, of Arkansas City, Rhonda Brumback, and her husband, Bob, of Arkansas City, Ronnie Bruce, and his wife, Lynda Gayle, of Canton, Texas, Brenda Sexton, and her husband, Tommy, of Roff, Okla.; step-children Alvin Woods, Larry Woods and Cathy Mayhill, all of Arkansas City, and Fay Thomas, of Reno, Nev.; 32 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Marilyn Neueberg, and one step-daughter, Alice Steelman.  A memorial has been established with The Gideons and the Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Association.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan.  Services for Marie Woods, 90, Arkansas City, are 1 p.m. Saturday at Hawks Funeral Home.  Burial follows at Riverview Cemetery.

Mrs. Woods died March 9, 2005, at an Arkansas City hospital.  She was born Jan. 2, 1915, in the Greenwood township near Wellington to Charles and Maggie Harris Underwood.

She had lived in the Wellington area, Arkansas City and Davis, Okla., for several years.  She had worked at the Whacker Discount Store at Davis.  In Arkansas, she worked at Arkansas City Memorial Hospital, TG&Y and Wal Mart before retiring.

She married Earl Mitchell Bruce.  She married Alvin L. Woods March 24, 1958, at Miami, Okla.  He died in June 1985.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marilyn Neueberg; and stepchildren Alvin Woods, Larry Woods and Cathy Mayhill, all of Arkansas City, Fay Thomas, Reno, Nev., and Alice Steelman.

Survivors include her children, Bob Bruce and his wife Paula, Davis, Mervin Bruce and his wife Verna, Arkansas City, Shirley Bright, Arkansas City, Janice Sparks, Oklahoma City, Okla., Donald Bruce and his wife Laeta, Arkansas City, Cheryl Baughman and her husband Bill, Arkansas City, Gary Bruce and his wife Caroline, Arkansas City, Rhonda Brumback and her husband Bob, Arkansas City, Ronnie Bruce and his wife Lynda Gayle, Canton, Texas, and Brenda Sexton and her husband Tommy, Roff, Okla.; 32 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-greatgrandchildren.
