E. Bob Brown

   Madras resident Enos R. "Bob" Brown, Jr., died Oct. 7, 2006, at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.  He was 71.

Funeral services were held Oct. 14, at the Madras Christian Church, officiated by the Rev. Bob Benson.  Graveside services will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m., at the family plot in the Big Bend Cemetery on the Moak Ranch out of Oroville, Calif.  Following the services, a fellowship potluck will be held at Concow Lake Picnic Area.

   Mr. Brown was born Dec. 27, 1934, in Chico, Calif., to Enos R. and Mary Ellen (Moak) Brown.  He lived in Yankee Hill, Calif., attended grade school at Concow and graduated from Oroville High in 1952.

   He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1954 to 1957, spending his tour of duty in Japan, The Philippines, and the Pacific on a Super Constellation.  After his Pacific duty he was stationed in Texas before his honorable discharge.

   He married Janice Collinson Fry in Reno, Nev., in 1960.

   He worked on the Oroville Dam construction in California for several years then felled timber until moving to Madras in 1979, where he ran a farm for Paul Schoen and Edie Hagen.  He and his wife bought a ranch in the Gateway area where she continues to live.

   Mr. Brown belonged to the Jefferson County Cattleman's Association and was Cattleman of the Year in 1999; was a member of the Elks Lodge, Oregon Cattleman's Association, and the National Cattleman's Association.

   His special interests included hunting, fishing, gardening, and painting with acrylics and oils.  He especially loved playing with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and loved to watch baby calves.

   Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Janice Brown of Madras; two sons, Kenneth and his wife Joan Fry of Fernley, Nev., Robert and his wife Sylvia Brown of Oroville, Calif.; daughter, Judy and her husband Steven Richter of Hood River, sisters; Joan and her husband Ted French of Prineville, Judy and her husband Mike Graham of Grangeville, Idaho; brother, John and his wife Judy Brown of Madras; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

   Arrangements are under the direction of the Prineville Funeral Home.
