Paul W. Pitts
 May 20, 1942 - September 12, 2006

Paul Wendell Pitts, age 64, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2006 in a local hospital.  He graduated from Woodbury High School and was employed for over 37 years with Cleveland Utilities where he was assistant manager of the water division.  While working with the utility company, he received several plant awards including the Julian R. Fleming-Water in 1979 and the Julian R. Fleming-Wastewater in 1980.  Other awards in the field of water management that he received include the M. L. Brickey Award-Wastewater Field, the Hatfield Award-Presented by Water Pollution Control Federation, the R. P. Farrell Award in 1977 and Woodman of the World-Wastewater Field.  He was a member of Tennessee Water and Wastewater Association, Water Pollution Control Federation, American Water Works Association and Tennessee Water Quality Management Association.  He was a member of Union Grove Church of Christ where he was a former deacon.

He was the son of the late Shelah and Justice Elkins Pitts and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Jones Pitts, one brother and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Betty King Pitts of Cleveland; daughter, Sheila Pitts of Cleveland; two brothers: Flavil Ray Pitts of McMinnville, and Sterling Pitts of Woodbury; two sisters: Una Ray of McMinnville, and Ona Prater of Woodbury; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services in Cleveland will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Minister Richard Guill and Minister Roger Campbell officiating.  Adam McCracken, Tim McCracken, David Triplett, Chris Aiken, Tracy Sneed and Brian Cartwright will serve as pallbearers and with Lonnie Jones and the elders of Union Grove Church of Christ, Don Whaley, Charles Cartwright and Eugene McCracken, serving as honorary pallbearers.

His family will receive friends from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Funeral services in Woodbury will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. CST at Leoni Church of Christ with Minister Odell Powell officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with his nephews serving as pallbearers.
