Yvonne L. Smith Smith Austin American-Statesman, December 18, 2006
Yvonne L. Smith, 69, of Austin passed away December 16, 2006, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Yvonne was born in Knox City, Texas, on August 23, 1937 to George Smith and Cora (Brazil) Smith. She lived in Austin for more than 45 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Coleman. Those left to cherish her beloved memories are her two daughters and their families, Tracy and husband Robert Wright and their daughters, Allyson and Katy of Dripping Springs; Teresa and husband Jay Garza and their sons, Daniel and Joshua Garza of Austin; sister, LaVerne Marquess and husband John of Buda; nephew, Wesley Marquess of Champagne, Illinois; favorite uncle, Cecil Brazil of Corpus Christ; former husband, James L. Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Yvonne, known to her grandchildren and many others as Nan, retired from the Austin Independent School District after a career that spanned more than three decades and included many years at both Crockett and Bowie High Schools, before moving to the District Administration building. She was known by many as the scheduling guru of AISD and solved many a scheduling crisis with her calm, no nonsense approach, and a razor-sharp sense of humor. Although her illness took its toll physically, she retained her positive outlook on life and cherished being with her family and friends. Yvonne was baptized into Christ and served the Lord with the congregation at the Southwest church of Christ in Austin. The family would like to express their deep and heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Paul Harford and the compassionate staff of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Consultants of Austin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 18, 2006, Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2006, in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, with Brother John Moore officiating. - See more at: |
