Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Collier-Butler Chapel for Clarence Temple 87, Southside, who went to be with the Lord Monday, April 10, 2006. The Revs. Jerry Rea and Buford Phillips will officiate. Burial in Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Service directing. Mr. Temple was a devoted husband, a loving father and a devout Christian. He was a retired teacher with the Alabama Educational System. Mr. Temple was an instructor at the Alabama Technical College for 29 years and also taught at Hokes Bluff High School. He was a Mason more than 60 years with a 32nd degree. He also was a master electrician and an accomplished violinist with an invitation to perform with the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in the early 1950s. Mr. Temple was a longtime member of East Gadsden Baptist Church and a current member of Southside Baptist Church. He grew up in Alabama City and was a graduate of Emma Sansom High School, having received his B.A. degree from Howard College and master's degree from UAB. He also attended the New Orleans Theological Seminary for two years. Mr. Temple was a very humble and kind- hearted man. He loved animals and cared very deeply for his fellow man. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Mildred Temple; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Darlene Temple, Floyd Temple and Tim and Penni Temple; and grandchildren, Stephen, Brittani and Zachary Temple. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hattie Temple; sister, India Temple; and brother, Carl Temple. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and deep gratitude to Gadsden Health and Rehab Center for their care, patience and understanding during Mr. Temple's illness. We would also like to thank all family members, friends and members of East Gadsden Baptist Church and Southside Baptist Church. Their love and prayers will always be cherished.
