Ricky Thames

Ricky "Rick" O. Thames of Gainesville died Sunday in Gainesville.  He was 53.

Mr. Thames was a lifelong resident of Gainesville.  He retired from Hunter Marine in Alachua.

He served in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War.  He also served as a detective with the Gainesville Police Department for eight years.

He enjoyed airboating, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Gina Thames of Gainesville; a stepson, Christian Snyder of Westminster, Colo.; a daughter, Tiffany Thames of Gainesville; a son, Sgt. Jared Thames of Orlando; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements by Moring Funeral Home in Melrose.
