Callie Ree Jackson Cooper
Callie Ree Cooper Born in Goldthwaite, Texas on 08/10/1913 Departed on 02/04/2007 and resided in Albuquerque, NM COOPER - Callie Ree Cooper, 93, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2004 in Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Cooper; her parents William and Anna Jackson of Lubbock, Texas; and four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her children, Austin Cooper of Albuquerque; Thomas Cooper and family of McKinney, Texas; and Anne (Cooper) York and family of Nashville, Tennessee. Callie Ree was born in Goldthwaite, Texas on August 10, 1913. She lived there until her family moved to Lubbock in 1923. She attended public schools and Texas Tech University, graduating from Texas Tech in 1937. She met her husband, George, while she was a student at Texas Tech. They were married in Clovis, New Mexico in 1938. After completing a year of teaching at Texline High School in Texline, Texas, she joined George in Carlsbad where he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation. In 1949, George was transferred to Altus, Oklahoma, and in 1952 he was transferred to Moses Lake, Washington. In Moses Lake, Callie Ree resumed her teaching career, first as a substitute teacher for three years and then full-time as a fourth grade teacher for 19 years before retiring in 1974. Her husband, George, also retired and they moved to Albuquerque. In her teaching career at Moses Lake, Callie Ree received the Standard General Certificate from the state of Washington, certifying her ability to teach any subject at any grade level - kindergarten through junior college. She was considered an expert by her colleagues in the field of social studies and was selected to be on a committee to revise the social studies curriculum for the state of Washington. She retired before the committee completed the revisions. Callie Ree was raised in the Church of Christ. Her family was active in Goldthwaite and at the Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock. She and her husband were active in churches in Carlsbad, New Mexico; Altus, Oklahoma; Moses Lake, Washington, and at the University Church of Christ in Albuquerque. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Thursday, February 8, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Albuquerque Christian Children’s Home, 5700 Winter Haven Drive NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87120.
