Bernice L. Mathis, 80, died Tuesday at her home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday in the Franklin-Bartley Funeral Chapel; burial will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. Bernice was born May 2, 1927 in Vernon, Texas. She attended schools in Lamesa, Texas. She attended the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and had worked as a cashier for Gibson's, Safeway, and Owens Food's until her retirement in 1983. She is survived by her son, Dennis Burkett and wife, Candy; her daughter, Brenda Stone and husband Larry all of Lubbock; five step-children; two brothers Buford Sanders of Lamesa and Don Sanders of Farmington, NM.; two grandchildren, Geron Burkett of Fort Worth and Heather Thomas of Lubbock; and four great-grandchildren Memorials can be made to TTU HSC School of Nursing, or Hospice of Lubbock To send on-line condolences please visit www.franklin-bartley.com |
