Bessie G. Hedrick Smith Odessa American, The, October 26, 2007
ODESSA Bess Gordon Smith, age 88, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, from Hospice House of Odessa. She entered this life, Wednesday, October 15, 1919, in Sweetwater, Nolan County, Texas, to the late Lee G. and Francis (Sublett) Headrick. She married F.B. "Smittie" Smith on November 19, 1937, in Sweetwater. They owned and operated Smittie's Liquor Store in Odessa for 40 years. She was a past member of the Eagles Lodge and the W.A.B.B.I's. She worshipped at the First Baptist Church. Those left to cherish her love and memories are her brother: R.E. "Pap" Headrick of Sweetwater; one grandchild: Jeff Smith of Maryneal, TX; four great-grandchildren: Sarah, Rebecca, Brice and Elizabeth; and several nieces and nephews: Lacresha Knapp of Odessa, Donna Headrick of Arizona, Marsha Headrick of Huntsville, TX, Bobby Adams of Odessa, Tommy Adams of Oklahoma, Jeff Headrick of Lubbock, Brett Headrick of Austin, and Max Headrick of Sweetwater. Bess was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Smittie; one son: Eddie Don Smith; two brothers: Tom Headrick and L.G. Headrick; and one sister: Luella House. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2007, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Brother Emmett Barnard officiating. Condolences to the family may be sent at acreswestfuneral.com.
