Thalya Marie Tissaw Arizona Republic, The (Phoenix, AZ) - November 30, 2007
Thalya Marie Tissaw, 84, of Flagstaff, passed away November
27, 2007. She was born the only child to Henry and Josephine (Yost) Hays
in Holbrook March 30, 1923. Thayla spent her early years in between
Holbrook and Flagstaff, moving to Flagstaff permanently as a young girl
following the death of her father. She graduated from Flagstaff High
School and attended ASU for a short time. She married Thomas Tissaw June
25, 1942 before he left for WWII. During the war she waited for his return
living in San Francisco working in Banking. After the war they returned to
Flagstaff where she worked at the county assures office until their son,
John was born. After which she enjoyed staying home, was a member of the
Assistance League, the Chamber of Commerce, and bridge clubs. She also
enjoyed needle point and starting crafts that she would talk Tom into
finishing, and the family trips up to Lake Powell. She is survived by her
son, John and his wife Susan Tissaw of Peoria, granddaughter Lee Tissaw of
Maryland, many cousins, extended family and friends. Rosary will be held
7:00 p.m. Thursday, at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66. Funeral
Mass will be said at 9:30 Friday morning at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin
Mary Chapel. Interment will be held Friday, 2:30 at Sunland Memorial Park,
in Sun City. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Northland
Hospice, P.O. Box 997, Flagstaff, AZ 86002. Condolences can be sent to the Tissaw family at
