(March 22, 1925 - March 28, 2007)

82 year old John W. Watson of Green Hill Road, Smithville died Wednesday at his residence.  He was a Dairy farmer and a member of the Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m.. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home.  Virgil Hibdon, Jr and Greg Hibdon will officiate and burial will be in the Banks Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Bedie Vanatta Watson; a brother, Steve Watson; and a grandson Berry Melton.  Survivors include his wife, Loretta Bratcher Watson of Smithville.  Three daughters, Patsy Helton of McMinnville, Rose and her husband Leonard Melton of Smithville and Barbra and her husband Virgil Hibdon, Jr. of Smithville.  A son, Charles Watson and his fiance Carisa Myers of McMinnville.  Eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.  A brother, Tom and his wife Christine Watson of Smithville.  A sister, Elizabeth and her husband Eddie Grisweld of McMinnville.  An aunt, Sally Hibdon of McMinnville.  Special niece, Ernesteen Cantrell of McMinnville, and several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

    Funeral services were held for John W. Watson, 82, on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Love-Cantrell Chapel in Smithville.  Brother Virgil Hibdon, Jr. and Brother Greg Hibdon officiated, with interment in the Banks Cemetery.  He died on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at his home.

    A resident of Smithville, Mr. Watson was a dairy farmer and was affiliated with the Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

    He was preceded in death by a grandson, Barry Melton; parents, Jessie and Bedie Vanatta Watson; and a brother, Steve Watson.

    He is survived by his wife, Loretta Bratcher Watson of Smithville; a son, Charles Watson and his fiancé', Carisa Myers of McMinnville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patsy Helton of McMinnville and Rose and Leonard Melton and Barbra and Virgil Hibdon, Jr., all of Smithville; and by eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

    He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Christine Watson of Smithville; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Eddie Griswald of McMinnville; an aunt, Sally Hibdon of McMinnville; a special niece, Ernesteen Cantrell of McMinnville; and by several nieces, nephews and friends.

    Pallbearers were Paul Watson, Steven Watson, Dixie Underhill, Beecher Underhill, Freddie Bivens and Charles Cantrell.

    Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville was in charge of the arrangements.
