Shirley Earlene Bright, 70, of Arkansas City died April 23, 2008, at the Galachia Heart Hospital, Wichita, KS. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Pastor Gale Rider will officiate. Shirley was born May 23, 1937, in Wellington, KS to Mitchell E. and Marie (Underwood) Bruce. She was reared and educated in Arkansas City. Shirley married Marion J. Bright in Chanute, KS. The couple traveled with their family until settling down in Wichita, KS in 1965. They later moved to Arkansas City in 1979, where they would remain. Shirley worked as a Jet Engine Mechanic for G.E. until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, and attended the Mount Zion Community Church. She is survived by her two daughters, Sherry Williams and husband Steve of Arkansas City, KS; Patty Manuel of Arkansas City, KS; companion Bob Vanderpool of Arkansas City, KS; brothers, Bob Bruce and wife Paula of Davis, OK; Mervin Bruce of Winfield, KS; Donald Bruce and wife Aleta of Arkansas City, KS; Gary Bruce and wife Caroline of Arkansas City, KS; Ronnie Bruce and wife Gayle of Canton, TX; sisters, Janice Sparks of Oklahoma City, OK; Cheryl Baughman and husband Bill of Arkansas City, KS; Rhonda Brumback and husband Bob of Arkansas City, KS; Brenda Sexton and husband Tommy of Roth, OK; grandson T.J. Manuel of Arkansas City, KS; numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marion, sister Marilyn Neuerburg, sister in law Jody Bruce, and nephew Jason Bruce. A memorial has been established with the Mount Zion Community Church Building Fund. Contributions may be made at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
