Don Burkett - Star-Telegram - (Dec/21/2008)

Don Burkett 1930 - 2008

Don Burkett, 78, went to be with his Heavenly Father Friday, Dec. 19, 2008.

Memorial service: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Southside Church of Christ, 2101 Hemphill St., Fort Worth.

   Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Memorials: Southside Church of Christ pantry ministry, 2101 Hemphill St., Fort Worth, Texas 76110.

Don was born Aug. 17, 1930, in Locker and grew up in Goldthwaite and Austin. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas School of Pharmacy in 1951, receiving the Borden Award for the highest rank in his class.  Don volunteered for the Army, serving in Germany from 1952 to 1954.  In 1957, he moved to Fort Worth and met his sweetheart who would become his best friend and wife of 51 years.  He worked as a pharmacist, primarily with the Whitten Pharmacy, until he retired in 1996.

Don was a faithful member of Southside Church of Christ, where his love for the Lord called him to teach Bible class, serve as an elder, and compassionately work in the pantry ministry.

Don loved to travel, whether to Germany or within the U.S., especially Albuquerque, N.M.  Most of his trips were to Austin to see his Longhorns play.

Don was a man of integrity, always gracious and kind, and never had a bad word to say about anyone.  He is loved by all and will be dearly missed.

Survivors: Wife, Jayne Burkett; daughters, Kathy Stroup and husband, Robert, Judy Burkett, and Paula Brower and husband, Briggs; son, Lynn Burkett; grandchildren, Ashley Stroup and Bobby Stroup; sisters, Doye Fannin and husband, Bob, and June Burkett.
