John Allen Laughary, Sr.
(July 20, 1930 - March 18, 2008)

Laughary, Sr., John Allen, 77, retired Union Pacific Railroad locomotive engineer, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2008.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Zachary F. and Minnie A. (Hughes) Laughary; brothers, Leo, Howard, Charles, Willie, Bobby Gene, David and Paul; sisters, Nellie Brown and Beulah McCray.  John was born and raised his family in Wichita until transferring with the railroad to DeQuincy, LA in January of 1969.  After retiring there, he returned to Wichita in March of 1992.  He was a longtime member of Northside Church of Christ.  Visitation with the family present 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday at Cochran Mortuary, 1411 N. Broadway.  Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday at West Douglas Church of Christ, 1924 W. Douglas.  Survivors; wife of 60 years, Norma; son, John A. (Cheryl) Laughary, Jr.; daughter, Sharon (Bob) Gilmer; sisters, Mary Marie Lawyer, Rosalie Stephens all of Wichita; five grandchildren and three great granddaughters.  Memorials with “Know Your Bible” TV Ministry, 4545 N. Meridian, Wichita, 67204 and Maude Carpenter’s Childrens Home, 1501 N. Meridian, Wichita, 67203.
