OBITUARIES

GEORGE ALVIN SMITH, 81, Pine Mountain, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at St. Vincent’s East in Birmingham.  Mr. Smith was the husband of 64 years of Inez Clevenger Smith and son of the late Robert Lee and Frances Wilson Smith.  A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Smith served in Germany during World War II.  He was a truck driver by trade.  Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son Jerry Smith, three brothers, and three sisters.

Surviving are children David (Barbara) Smith, Oneonta, Claudette Hallman and Steve (Venecia) Smith, both of Pine Mountain, and Sheila Hughes, Birmingham; grandchildren Candi, Greg, Mark, and Brad (Kim) Smith, Brandi (Paul) Moro, Grant, Steven, and Bryan Hughes, Mike and Matt Hallman, and Andi (Chris) Armstrong; and great-grandchildren Max, Reese, Hunter, and Montana Smith and Faith Moro.

Glenn Bynum officiated a chapel service Sept. 15 at Lemley Funeral Home.  Interment followed at Pleasant Mount Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Mark and Brad Smith, Paul Moro, Mike and Matt Hallman, and Grant Hughes.
