Beulah M. Bowling, 96, of Winfield, passed away Oct. 25, 2009, in William Newton Hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Burden Cemetery. Memorials are to Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.milesfuneralservice.com. Beulah was born Sept. 10, 1913, in Bolivar, Mo., to Anderson O. and Susan Melissa (Crouch) Burkett. She was raised and educated in Leavenworth. She and George C. Bowling married on Sept. 10, 1932, in Leavenworth. The couple lived all over the United States and in North Africa while George was in the United States Air Force. When he retired in 1967, they moved back to Kansas. Beulah moved to Winfield when Mr. Bowling died in 1975. She worked for Hogans Department Store in Savannah, Ga., for 10 years and for J.C. Penney in Winfield for six years. She also was as a foster grandparent at the Winfield State Hospital & Training Center. She was a member of the Burden United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 Auxiliary in Winfield. She enjoyed sewing, reading and the Kansas City Royals baseball team. In addition to her husband and parents, Beulah was preceded in death by her son, George C. Bowling Jr., her brother, Cloyce Burkett, and her granddaughter, Cheryl Hogarth. Survivors include her daughter, Babs A. Weathers, and husband, Wes, Winfield; her grandchildren, Chuck Hogarth, and wife, Cindy, Debbie Coon, and husband, Paul, Tammy Askins, and husband, Todd, and Gary Weathers, all of Winfield, Kenny Hogarth, and wife, Lisa, Wichita, Susan Weathers, Enterprise, Ala., Janice Carbrough, Pennsylvania, and George Bowling, Maryland; 17 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and her devoted caregivers, Lynn, Renee and Kathy.
