Phyllis Jean (Davey) Lindeen

POMPEYS PILLAR - Phyllis Jean (Davey) Lindeen, age 83, of Pompeys Pillar, passed away early on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, in Sacred Heart Hospital at River Bend in Springfield, Ore., due to a bacterial infection in a heart valve, a type of heart failure.

She was born at home on Feb. 18, 1926, in Yellowstone County, the first child of parents Melvin and Emma (Trump) Davey.  Phyllis graduated from Huntley Project High School in 1944 and then completed four years of nurses training in three years, receiving her bachelor's degree from Montana State University in 1947.  She married John David Lindeen, her high school sweetheart, of Pompeys Pillar, on Sept. 5, 1947, and lived the rest of her life on their Fly Creek Road cattle ranch in Yellowstone County, where they raised their four children.

After John passed away in 1980, Phyllis went back to work, and in May of 1983 began working as a nurse at Heritage Acres Nursing Home in Hardin, where she met her favorite doctor, Carol Greimann, MD.  Phyllis made many wonderful friends in Hardin and worked there until she retired in December 1990.  Phyllis always served others lovingly as a mother, a nurse, and a caregiver.  Since she loved to cook, she often took delicious meals to shut-ins or people recovering from illness.  She also liked to read, sew, crochet, and garden.  Phyllis loved living in the country where she befriended and walked among the birds and wildlife.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her younger brother, Melvin LeRoy (Marge) Davey of Powell, Wyo.; son David (Monica) of Helena, formerly of Huntley; daughter Jennifer (Richard) Brown of Sutherlin, Ore.; son Alvin (Christy Althoff, special friend) of Worden; and daughter Robin (Stephen) Lindeen-Blakeley of Corbett, Ore.  She also leaves seven adored grandchildren, Wesley, Nicholas, Dusty Marie, Heather, Stephenie, Chelsea and Jason; and 10 treasured great-grandchildren, Dawson, Delayne, Wylee, Kabreena, Westen, Justin, Augusta, Shae, Sennett and Phoenix; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is also survived by her aunt, Betty Trump (LaVern) Curley of Monroe, Wash.  Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents and in-laws; husband; sister-in-law Lola Lindeen Duncan; sister Donna Michaelis; brother Robert "Bob" Davey; and her baby grandson, Joel.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place.  A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Homesteader Memorial Hall near Huntley, at 11 a.m., with potluck lunch and fellowship following.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Montana Audubon Conservation Education Center, PO Box 81131, Billings, MT 59108; or the Ballantine United Church of Christ, PO Box 126, Ballantine, MT 59006.
