August 4, 1923 - March 18, 2009

Mrs. Inez Purser, 85, of Bickford Cottages, Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Merkel, Texas, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in Bickford Cottages.  Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 25th at Merkel First Baptist Church with Reverend Jimmy Griffith officiating.  Burial will follow in the Trent Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home.

Born August 4, 1923 in Rotan, Texas, Inez was the daughter of Joe Honus and Maud Taylor Gruben.  She grew up on the family farm in Pleasant Valley and graduated from Rotan High School.  She married Kenneth L. Purser on May 11, 1950.  He preceded her in death in February 7, 1991.

Inez was a member of the First Baptist Church in Merkel, Texas where she was active in Sunday School and helping with many funeral dinners.  She enjoyed visits from her children, grand children and great grandchildren.  Other interests included gardening, playing Skip-Bo with friends and a great love for dogs.  Inez was employed as an administrative assistant at Taylor Electrical Cooperative in Merkel, Texas for 35 years.  She retired in 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth W. Purser and his wife Barb of Quincy, IL and Don Purser and his wife Karen of Cypress, TX; five grandchildren, Kimberly Purser and her fiance’, Derek Stumpf of St. Louis, MO, Kendra Purser of St. Louis, MO, Josh Purser and his wife Jenna of Canyon, TX, Justin Purser of Spring, TX and Chessa Purser of Cypress, TX; two great grandchildren, Tess Purser and Keira Purser both of Canyon, TX; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Purser was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; and a brother, Valton Gruben.
