*ARLINGTON -- Nicholas Yazzo Jr., 80, died peacefully in his sleep at a local care center on Friday, May 22, 2009.

Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home Chapel at 1219 N. Davis Drive in Arlington.  Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home.

Nick was born and raised in White Plains, N.Y.  He graduated from White Plains High School.  After graduation, Nick attended technical school to study aircraft mechanics.

Always an avid traveler, Nick left New York and arrived in Fort Worth at the beginning of the aircraft industry boom.  He worked for a time at what was then known as Convair.

Nick then became an employee of the Texas Air National Guard.  He retired with the rank of master sergeant.

Nick met his wife, Sandy, at a YMCA dance in Fort Worth.  Their 40-year marriage included many good times dancing, roller skating, and traveling.

Dad, we will miss you so much and we thank you for all that you taught us.

Nick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandy Yazzo; his parents, Nick Sr. and Amelia; and his brothers, Vito and Frank.

Survivors: His daughters, Karen Roaten and Amelia Giles; sister and brother-in-law, Caroline ond John Tucci; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, including Jim Roaten, Sherry Vander Velden and his commanding officer and friend, Col. Robert Gruenhagen.
