Linda K. Ketner Thurman The Davis News, Sept. 8, 2010
Services for Linda K. Thurman of Davis will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at the Dougherty Baptist Church with Pastor Alan McCoy officiating. Linda was born March 25, 1941, in Springer to the late Louis E. and Johnnie L. (Hannah) Ketner. She died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, in Oklahoma City at the age of 69 years, five months and six days. Linda and Tom Thurman were married on Sept. 22, 1980, in Ada. Growing up in the home of educators, Linda's childhood was spent in various communities, including Springer, Dougherty, Joy and Davis. After graduating from Davis High School in 1959, she attended Oklahoma State University where she received a bachelor's degree. Linda' s career included working for the J.C. Penney Corp. as an interior drapery consultant; working as an office manager for a Tulsa Aircraft Company as well as an office manager in the cable television industry. Her position with the cable industry required her to oversee the opening of cable TV offices in Tulsa, Pauls Valley, Sulphur and Corsicana, Texas. After she and Tom married, Linda became the office manager and floor salesman of their family owned business, The Carpet Center of Davis. Linda was a past member of the Davis chapter of the Euterpean Music Club. She was an accomplished pianist and spent countless hours practicing the art of music. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading her Bible, needlepointing, scrapbooking and genealogy. Linda had a great love of animals, especially horses and dogs. She was a member of the Dougherty Baptist Church. Survivors include her devoted husband, Tom; two daughters, Melissa Harmon of Guthrie and Julie Alvarez and husband, Shon, of Owasso; one son, Rob Sims and wife, Shelley, of Broken Arrow; 10 grandchildren, Michael and Katie Sims, Chris Gillaland, Carrie Harmon, Tyler, Jeffrey and Jackson Billy and Dakota and Mackenzie Alvarez; one brother, Dr. Kenneth Ketner of Lubbock, Texas, and her very dear friend, Dr. Ruth Holmes. Services are entrusted to Hale's Funeral Home of Davis. |
