Mr. Verdie D. Andrews - age 85 - of Criscoe Road, the Morgan City Community of Union Grove died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Andrews was born in Morgan County, Alabama, February 9, 1925, the Son of John William Andrews and Cora Ardella Bailey Andrews. He served his Country in the United States Army during World War II, Honorably Discharged as Private First Class on January 17, 1946. He has been living in the Morgan City Community since 1966. He was a member of Brindlee Mountain Church of God and enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens Center of Morgan City. He also enjoyed basket weaving as a hobby. He was preceded in death by his Wife: Kathleen Patricia Majors Andrews who died Sunday, January 17, 2010; at the time of her death She and Mr. Andrews had been married for 63 years. He was also preceded in death by a Son: John Benjamin Andrews, his Parents: John W. and Cora A. Andrews and two Brothers: George Harden Andrews and Otis "Red" Andrews. Verdie is survived by a Son: Larry Andrews of Burlington, Kentucky; Two Daughters and Sons-In-Law: Patricia and Larry Owen of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Della and David Frey of Morgan City; 8 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Brindlee Mountain Chapel Funeral Home with Brother Lee Parrish, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Highland Cemetery, Brindlee Mountain Chapel, directing.

He was married for 63 years to Kathleen Patricia Majors Andrews, who preceded him in death Jan. 17, 2010. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged as Private First Class on Jan. 17, 1946. He has been living in the Morgan City community since 1966. He was a member of Brindlee Mountain Church of God and enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens Center of Morgan City. He also enjoyed basket weaving as a hobby. He is survived by a son: Larry Andrews of Burlington, Ky.; two daughters and sons-in-law: Patricia and Larry Owen of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Della and David Frey of Morgan City; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son: John Benjamin Andrews; and two brothers: George Harden Andrews and Otis "Red" Andrews. The funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at Brindlee Mountain Chapel Funeral Home with Lee Parrish officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Highland Cemetery with Brindlee Mountain Chapel directing. Pallbearers were John Andrews, David Frey, Travis Frey, Bradford Neal, Larry Owen and Russell Owen. |
