Frances Jean (Davis) Elrod

 

Frances Jean (Davis) Elrod passed at home on January 16, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Frances was born on October 11, 1926, in Marshallton, DE, the oldest child of Charles and Josephine (Taylor) Davis.  She is survived by six of her siblings, Elizabeth Davis, Erma (Davis) Roberts, Charles Davis, William Davis, Edward Davis and Shirley Davis.  She is predeceased by both her parents and her brother, John.

Frances was married to Edward Spencer Elrod on June 9, 1944.  She met Ed, who was originally from McMinnville, TN, while he was serving in the US Coast Guard, stationed at Bethany Beach, DE.  Together Ed and Frances raised three sons and one daughter, traveled the world, and built a loving home where friends and family frequently gathered for meals and fellowship.  Her family will remember her love for crosswords puzzles, reading, and collecting beautiful things.  She was an active member of the church of Christ at Cedars until her illness confined her.

Along with her brothers and sisters, she is survived by her husband, Edward, her sons, Kevin, Mark, and Drew, her daughter, Joel, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by six of her siblings, Elizabeth Davis, Erma (Davis) Roberts, Charles Davis, William Davis, Edward Davis and Shirley Davis.  She is predeceased by both her parents and her brother, John.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday January 19th from 5:30-7:30 pm, in the MCCRERY AND HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3710 Kirkwood Highway and Duncan Rd. Wilmington 19808 followed by a service at 7:30 pm.  A committal service will be held on Thursday morning at 10 am. in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear DE, 19701.
