Wilda Lee Burkett Taylor 
Birth:     May 3, 1917       
Death:  Feb. 28, 2011     

 

   Funeral services for Wilda Taylor, 93, of Portales will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ with David Heflin officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Mark Mann, Anthony Mann, Jim Wood, Barry Taylor, Wendell Taylor, and Dean O'Hare serving as pallbearers.

   Wilda Lee Taylor was born May 3, 1917, in Trent, TX, to Zona and John R. Burkett and died February 28, 2011, in Clovis, NM.  She grew up on a farm near O'Donnell, TX.  On August 8, 1934 in Lamesa, TX, she was married to C. L. Taylor.  They farmed near Lamesa and Ackerly until 1940 when they moved to Steagall, and then in 1950 they relocated to a farm in the Causey and Rogers area.  She and her husband farmed there until their retirement in 1972, at which time they moved to Portales.  Mrs. Taylor enjoyed making a beautiful home for her family, and working in the yard and garden.  In addition, she was an accomplished artist and also liked to crochet.  She and her husband belonged to the Conestoga Good Sam Club for several years, and for several weeks each year they spent time fishing at Zapata, TX.  Mrs. Taylor was a faithful member of the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ.  

   She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Glenda Taylor of Andrews, TX, and Butch and Junie Taylor of Portales; a daughter, Eva Johnson of Clovis; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild; and two brothers, Joe Burkett of Angleton, TX, and Jim Burkett of Brownfield, TX. 

   She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Elmo, Jake, and Dale Burkett; two sisters, Cortez and Katie; a son-in-law, Jay Johnson, and by C. L. Taylor, her husband of more than 68 years, who died on February 14, 2003.
