CROSSVILLE - Chattom A. "Big Al" Wood, 67, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Aug. 6, 2011. Funeral services were held Aug. 9 from the Chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with John Hanson and Harold Hoover officiating. Graveside committal services were held Aug. 10 at Oak Grove Cemetery in McMinnville, TN. Mr. Wood was born June 8, 1944, in Warren County, TN the son of Chattom Alonzo and Loretta Cantrell Wood. He was retired after many years as a truck driver and also spent several years in the insurance business. He was a US Army veteran having served during Vietnam. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and was very active in the fund raising for St. Jude Children's Hospital and Shriners Children's Hospital. He was a wonderful man who never met a stranger, always leaving a trail of laughter. Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Grogan Wood of Fairfield Glade; son, Todd Wood and his wife Rhonda of McMinnville, TN; daughters, Candy Ware and her husband Eddie of Sells, AZ and Stephanie Akins of Fairfield Glade; sister, Georgia Francisco of McMinnville; grandchildren, Houston and Jack Wood and Dakota and Caleb Ware; niece, Anita Kirby; and many wonderful friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Jewell Miller Wood. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Tom Hildreth, Jerry Green, Hugh Turner, Jeff Turner, Butch Henry, Larry Robinson, John Hanson, Jim Morrow, Jerald Brewer, Mark Tullar and Larry Holt.
